Bishopston & Ashley Down Labour Party The website of the Labour Party in Bishopston & Ashley Down ward
Over the past few months it’s been great to see Bristol Rovers reinvigorated under its new ownership. I agree with those who say it’s high time that the club got a new, ambitious stadium to go with their newfound place in League One.
Given that the redevelopment of the Memorial Ground is now detached from any need to fund Rovers’ new stadium (thanks to their new owners’ wealth), the club and local community can start thinking about a new, respectful future for the Ground.
I think everyone in the community would want to see a redevelopment that truly fits in with the local area; be it sensitively built housing, retirement homes as some have suggested, or even continued use as a sports venue.
Throughout all this, the Ground’s status as a war memorial should be respected, something which will come even more to the fore this November when Bristol’s Remembrance Sunday event will be held there.
I look forward to working with Bristol Rovers, the Friends of the Memorial Ground and the wider community to find the best future for this local asset.
