I’m writing this blog just over two weeks since polling day, and the buzz of the election has certainly not yet left! It’s been a very busy couple of weeks, from the count on the Sunday after polling day, to the swearing in ceremony that Monday and starting the Council’s extensive training programme, covering everything from a tour of the renovated City Hall (which looks amazing!) to an overview of how the Council works, to more specific items such as Corporate Parenting.

So now, on a relatively quiet Friday evening, I’d like to take this opportunity to offer my sincerest thanks to all those who cast their votes for me. I am deeply honoured that the people of Bishopston and Ashley Down have put their faith in me to represent this great area, and I will work tirelessly to fight for you and to represent your views.

Many of you have approached me already, offering congratulations and giving suggestions. I really value the time taken to give that input, and hope to work with all of you during my tenure.

With a new administration in City Hall we will begin to see real positive change on the big issues in the city. In Bristol West alone now we have gone from three to nine Labour Councillors (our photo is below!), and of course we have Marvin as Mayor and a Labour majority on the Council. We want to be a Council that listens and takes into account everyone’s views and needs, so over the next few months I’d like to meet with as many local groups, organisations and individuals as possible to see how I can help you. Please do get in touch, my email address is cllr.tom.brook[at]bristol.gov.uk
